April 9th, 2010

Just as it has been showing since the year started, the Port has been considerably growing in many of its areas, a great example is the container movement, which had significant increases this month. For what it comes to TEUS (20” containers) the first trimester had these numbers: 110,921 TEUS handled, 28% increase compared to 2009 and 8% increase compared to 2008.

Container movement is a very important part of our port’s operations; it gives Altamira a high position as one of the best in the Gulf of Mexico, and this increase of handled tons in the past two years is proof of the port’s leadership.

Today, 13 shipping lines operate in Altamira, to name a few: Hamburg Sud, Mediterranean Shipiping Company (MSC), Hapag Lloyd and China Shipping Container Line (CSCL). Together they offer 27 different services such as: Mexico – Europe, Gulf of Mexico – Mediterranean, Gulf of Mexico – Caribbean, North of Europe, Gulf of Mexico – Caribbean and Gulf Bridge Express, among others, which cover more than 130 ports around the world connected directly with Altamira.

Regarding containerized cargo, different forms of steel, TPA (Terephthalic acid) and PVC are the main ones, among others, used by companies using these services.

Its 2 multi-purpose terminals, Altamira Terminal Portuaria and Infraestructura Portuaria Mexicana that combined offer 1,200 meters of berth, its one of the main advantages that allow the Port of Altamira to be a leader, maintaining its position as the port with the highest growth in the Mexican Port System.

Port of Altamira ... Everything at hand to go farther!
