BREAK ANOTHER RECORD PORT OF ALTAMIRA
A 30% grow during October

During the month of October the Port of Altamira breaks record in the total movement of load when mobilizing 1.2 million tons of load, with an increase of 30% with respect to the month of October 2007. As far as the accumulated movement a 9% of growth with respect to the same period of the 2007 have been handled to 11.4 million tons, throwing and locating to Altamira in 4to place at national level.
The Mineral Bulk represented important volumes of load for this Industrial Complex, of January-October 2008 have handled 3.8 million tons with an increase of 21% in relation to the previous year. These operations are executed with located specialized harbor equipment in the graneleras terminals as they are Cooper T. Smith and Marine Terminal of Altamira.
The handled products of import in this type of load are mainly: iron coke, mineral, mineral coal, manganese, fertilizers, etc.
As far as export the fluorita, coming from San Luis Potosí and destined Europe, Asia, and the rest of America is the most important load, and it is used in the processes of glass production, hydrofluoric acid and like flux in the industry of the steel.
The advantages that the Industrial Complex of Altamira offers also are taken advantage of by the users who transport containers. In this period it was increased 12% respect to the 2007, with a total of 366 thousand TEUS (Containers of 20 feet) handled within the terminals of multiple uses. It is possible to emphasize that this number positions to us in the third place in the National Harbor System in this type of load.
As far as the import in containers are handled products like parts for automobile, machinery, wood, chemical agents, refractory material, etc., from Brazil, Belgium, Spain, Germany, among other countries of the world and with final destiny inside the Mexican Republic.
Referring to the export we can mention: tereftálico acid (TPA), titanium dioxide, polyvinyl cement, chloride (PVC), zinc among other products of Mexican origin that are embarked to diverse nations.
Within the movement of Fluids, Altamira stays like national leader with a total of 4.1 million tons to the month of October, throwing a growth of 14% compared with the last year. Base of this success is the high technology with that they count the terminals of fluid like BASF, TLA, TEPEAL, OTM, VOPAK, INSA becoming an excellent competitive supply.
It is as well as by means of a sustainable development the Port of Altamira positions like an excellent option offering the best advantages for the national and foreign investors, becoming a key link within the economy of Tamaulipas.
