Container movement hits record number in the Port of Altamira

June 16th, 2010

2010 is still proving to be a great year of accomplishments for the Port of Altamira, that even when it had already shown an amazing improvement with a 34% growth up to the first trimester, is now reporting a 62% growth in total cargo handling compared to May 2009, reflecting the fast recovery of industrial and international commerce activities in the port’s hinterland.

The activity in our multi-purpose terminals has been intense. Container movement is showing again record numbers, with more than 41,000 TEUS, being the most important products: TPA, steel, titanium dioxide, glass and sugar, while in break-bulk it was steel bars, beams and sheets.

The other maritime terminals have also shown a considerable improvement, being a good example Cooper T. Smith with 56% growth in over 1.3 million tonnes in mineral bulk, as well as TLA with a 58% growth in over 1.14 million tonnes of LNG.

These are examples of how the Port of Altamira keeps growing and strengthens its position in global markets, as a highly competitive port, with world-class products, services and infrastructure.
