The Port of Altamira was the main seat in Tamaulipas of the National Day of Reforestation “Plant a tree and I know part of the history” summoned by the Presidency of Republic the past 5 of July.
With the participation of Admiral Secretary of Navy Mariano Francisco Saynez Mendoza, the Governor of the State of Tamaulipas Eugenio Hernandez Flores, civil employees and employees of Integrated Port Administration of Altamira, as well as members of the harbor community and in general seeded in 7.4 hectares of lands of the Ecological Cord than 6,000 trees donated more by API Altamira surpassing therefore the initial goal of 5,500 trees.
This activity is united to the reforestation actions that the Port of Altamira makes daily for environment such as:
- Program of reforestation and conservation of the Ecological Protection Belt
- Program of Reforestation with Mangle
- Program of pursuit to the vegetation under norm NOM-059-2001
It is possible to emphasize that during last 3 years API Altamira it has supported by means of the donation of important lots of native plants the projects of reforestation promoted by the Municipal Authorities of Tampico, CD. Madero and Altamira as well as by the Independent University of Tamaulipas.
Also by means of the consultant's office and donation of plants produced in the breeding ground of the port, one has promoted between the companies installed in the harbor enclosure and the established ones in the industrial zone of Altamira, the hoisted creation of green areas and perimetrales curtains.
Between the used species objective of the production in the reforestation they emphasize: wood of rose, red cedar, orejón, palm, sabal, chijol, chaca, Creole handle, guayabo, sun wood, among others, same that have been located in the ecological protection belt.
From the 2005 to the 2008 a total of 114.760 plants in 86.5 hectares distribuídas within the port in the ecological cord has been seeded, coastal dunes, stream “Garrapatas”, matting “Barberena” and the rest in donations.
With intentions of fixation of dunes and construction of Aeolian barriers, casuarinas have been used and grape of beach and with aims of conservation and protection of manglar in the stream garrapatas and Barberena matting has taken place and seeded the four located species of mangle in the zone: mangle red, black, white and button. In years 2005-2007 47.000 plants of mangle were seeded, and for the 2008 they are had programmed more than 30,000.
These efforts of the Port of Altamira represent a great benefit the ecology of our community confirming their commitments of preservation of environment, and contributing to the national programs that in the matter of ecology have settled down.
